Calgary came together in a truly special way to celebrate culture, tradition, and ancient history at Las Geel Cultural Night.

It was an incredible gathering filled with fun activities for children and rich educational experiences for the entire community. Attendees had the opportunity to discover the profound significance of the Las Geel rock paintings, honoring one of the world’s most breathtaking ancient art sites.

This summer, Sahan is bringing free outdoor play sessions to kids across Calgary. Completely free, all summer long, and open to everyone.

The idea is simple. Every child deserves a safe and fun place to be active. Trained volunteers show up, set up, and lead kids through soccer and volleyball sessions at local parks. No fees. No experience needed. Just show up and play.

It is about more than sport. It is about kids making friends, building confidence, and having something great to look forward to every week.

The Shana Heritage Foundation was proud to host its annual Somaliland National Day celebration on May 18th, bringing together diverse Calgary communities in a spirit of unity and cultural pride. The event invited guests from the Calgary Ethiopian Community Association, the Jewish Community of Calgary, and the Calgary Police Service.

As a foundation dedicated to preserving African heritage and strengthening community ties, this gathering reflects our ongoing commitment to cultural education, intercultural dialogue, and building a more connected Calgary for all.

Our Eid al-Fitr celebration on March 21, 2026, marked a wonderful milestone for our community. We brought together 263 attendees, mostly children and their families to share in the joy of the holiday, celebrate our vibrant culture, and connect with one another.

The atmosphere was filled with energy and excitement as the children engaged in lively trivia and we all enjoyed beautiful cultural presentations. It was a day dedicated to uplifting our young members, and as part of our commitment to their future growth and happiness, we were incredibly honored to gift computers and other wonderful presents to the kids in attendance.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the families who attended and contributed to the magic of this Eid al-Fitr. The smiles and vibrant spirits of our youth are the foundation of our community’s bright future.
