Empowering, advocating, and uplifting newcomer women.

About Us

The Salwa Women Association is dedicated to supporting and uplifting immigrant and refugee women as they navigate life in their new home. We provide a safe, welcoming space where newcomer women can access vital resources, build confidence, gain economic independence, and connect with a supportive community.

Core Pillars

  • Advocacy & System Navigation: Guiding women through local legal, social, and healthcare systems while ensuring their rights and needs are championed.
  • Economic Empowerment: Delivering resume workshops, career coaching, financial literacy classes, and guidance for micro-entrepreneurs.
  • Community & Belonging: Creating peer mentorship programs that match newcomers with local volunteers to combat isolation and foster meaningful friendships.
  • Leadership Development: Building confidence through public speaking, civic engagement workshops, and community-led initiatives.

Key Initiatives

  • Settlement Support: Practical assistance with housing, education enrollment, local transit, and essential service navigation.
  • Language & Conversation Circles: Casual, welcoming spaces to practice English, learn conversational nuances, and network.
  • Health & Wellness: Culturally grounded workshops prioritizing mental health, self-care, and family wellness.
  • Mother & Family Networks: Tailored peer groups addressing the unique challenges of parenting in a new cultural context.
